Mobile Learning: Preparing for BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)
BYODThe demand for mobile learning options from students and teachers, and the exploding popularity of mobile devices has caused a new trend on campuses called bring your own device (BYOD), where students and teachers use their personally owned mobile devices for educational purposes. The BYOD trend is presenting new opportunities for teaching and learning that have the potential to significantly improve student achievement. Despite the numerous benefits, there are also challenges for educational institutions, namely supporting BYOD for students and staff with secure wireless and remote access network capabilities. This Center for Digital Education white paper discusses the requirements, best practices, and planning and budget considerations for implementing a BYOD mobile learning initiative. It explores various strategies to help campuses prepare for and navigate through the BYOD landscape.
