Saving the Environment and Your Budget:Green Insights from the New Telework Enhancement Act
Thursday, February 10, 201111:00 am PT / 2:00 pm ETDuration: 1 hourIt’s official: the Telework Enhancement Act of 2010 was signed into law by President Obama one short month ago. Its effects are already being felt at the federal, state, and local levels. While federal agencies are the primary focus of the legislation, the new law will likely set the template for similar action at the state and local level. Agencies have only six months to develop a formal telework policy, and teleworkers must be given equal treatment in performance appraisals, work environments, and other areas. A watershed move to online workspaces is expected as a result.
It’s easy to see the cost-cutting power of telework, web conferencing, and online collaboration. The high costs of travel, downtown office buildings, and are simply unsustainable in these difficult economic times. We know that online collaboration can cut all of those costs. The green benefits – in terms of lower carbon emissions and other benefits – are not as familiar but just as important.
